Mattie Stewart, owner and Managing Director of Workwear Northampton, has led a remarkable career. A former Northampton Saints rugby player and Scottish International and an ex-military professional, he brings discipline, teamwork, and strategic planning to his thriving business. Here we talk to him about growth plans for his business and why he is a firm supporter of the Brackmills BID.

Growing with Brackmills

We’ve been based in Brackmills for over seven years now, having moved from Moulton Park when we needed more space. As a production-based business specialising in branded workwear, sportswear, PPE, and clothing for the construction industry, we required a warehouse big enough to house our machinery and growing team. Brackmills was the perfect location to support our expansion.

In-house production and national reach

When we launched the embroidery and printing side of the business in May 2012, our focus was on delivering high-quality customisation. Today, we have embroidery machines, screen printing capabilities, and heat presses on site, allowing us to meet the needs of both local businesses and national clients. Our online portal has made managing large orders easier than ever, enabling us to supply companies across the UK efficiently.rnrnu0026nbsp;

Skilled team, quality products

Our highly skilled team not only produce workwear but also promotional and branded merchandise. Some of the major companies we supply include TMI Foods, E. M. Rogers Haulage, Mammoet UK, and Papa John’s EU.

Finding skilled embroidery professionals can be challenging—it’s a craft that requires precision and experience. We value our team and pay well to retain talented staff, ensuring that we continue to deliver exceptional products.

Ambitious plans for the future

We have big plans for growth, particularly in the sportswear sector. Expanding this side of the business is a key focus for us, and as we continue to grow, we may need even bigger premises within Brackmills. Finding the right space will be crucial in helping us maximise our potential.

Brackmills has been an excellent base for us, offering everything we need right on our doorstep. We’re big supporters of the Brackmills Business Improvement District (BID) and regularly attend BID forums. Sara Homer and her team do a fantastic job, and the BID makes a real difference by tackling local challenges and supporting businesses like ours.

Looking ahead, we remain committed to delivering high-quality workwear and promotional merchandise while supporting our local business community. Brackmills is the perfect place for us to continue growing.
